Thamesian Art
Thamesian Art Gallery had been a passion project in the making for over four years before it officially received the green light in 2020. With a clear vision to support emerging and established artists, the gallery aimed to become a cultural destination and a platform for artistic expression. To coincide with its physical launch, the team recognised the need for a modern, digital counterpart—a website that would mirror the gallery’s ambition, creativity, and commitment to accessibility.
As part of this digital strategy, I was commissioned to design and develop a custom website that could evolve alongside the gallery. One of the core requirements was to empower the gallery team with a robust content management system (CMS). This CMS would allow them to independently update exhibition information, artist profiles, and gallery news without relying on developers—enabling faster updates and ongoing control over their content.
In addition to flexibility, the visual experience of the site was critical. The gallery needed a dynamic, sliding image gallery to showcase high-quality artwork in an engaging and interactive way. We crafted an intuitive browsing experience that places the art front and center, reflecting the visual identity of the physical space and allowing visitors to explore the collection from anywhere in the world.
To support the gallery’s storytelling needs, I also built a range of customizable templates for text-based content such as blog posts, exhibition write-ups, and artist interviews. These templates offer a consistent design while providing the creative freedom necessary to adapt to different types of content. The result is a beautifully balanced website that not only meets functional needs but also embodies the gallery’s artistic vision and long-term goals.
